54 miles today. There was a ferry - might have been a highlight of the trip!
Up early and out of Ingolstadt via a very nice breakfast place just around from our unattended hotel. A breakfast ‘buttie’ for Steve and an omelette for me.
Made our way down alongside - the river, the canal and various tributaries. The cuckoos were out again this morning. Found coffee 10 miles out in a bakery filled with sticky cakes - amazed that we managed to resist!
Finally saw some river traffic, after 200+ miles. The ferries were the only boats allowed through the gorge, but we saw a a huge canal boat and plenty of pleasure boats after that.
The first ‘half’ of the day was done after 30 miles and the ferry from Weltenburg to Kelheum, so beautiful going through the gorge, and then it was time for lunch! Big salads again - but schnitzel salads only today!
Then the last 20 miles to Regensburg. Started to get fed up with the gravely, rocky paths. Absolutely brutal on the backside, especially on an almost 60 mile day. Did the ibuprophen / paracetamol mix, plenty of rest breaks and Jessie’s magic cream and still stopping every 5 miles. New rule, we’re doing paved and asphalt from now on!
Regensburg is a busy town right on the river, plenty of restaurants and things to see. We have a front row view of the cathedral tonight and found a very nice Asian restaurant for dinner.
Good day, but doing it different tomorrow!

Lots and lots of bikes now. On the trail today vast majority were e bikes, tonight as we had dinner by a road that heads out of town, much younger groups out after work for a ride, literally hundreds of them. Every time the light changed another 20 or so would come whizzing past in a group.
As Katherine mentioned we are done with stone paths for a while and will be using roads to avoid them for a day or two. Lucky we didn’t break the bike today it’s so bumpy. Average speed on the roads is a good 4 miles and hour faster and it’s less wearing on us and the bike.
Don’t know how much sleep there will be tonight as we have the biggest and noisiest clock I have ever seen right outside the window. Maybe it’s got a mute button on it 🤔.
Looking forward to a “roads only” day tomorrow and another 50 odd miles. Weather looks good for a few days though the bike looks like it’s in “Desert Storm “ livery, covered in white limestone dust from the trails. Very lucky to be able to do this trip, I’ve always liked Germany but we would usually only do a couple of nights here on the moto on route to or from the alps or Italy, this time we are here for almost two weeks so seeing a lot more of it. Europe takes some beating in the summer. Bring it on. How fun to ride on the ferry for a bit. Food sounds and look delicious. Happy pedaling on some smoother routes.
